Furious...

In the past week my feelings have ranged from euphoria to fury.  Euphoria because a court has finally declared the complete ban of public carry of firearms by Illinois to be unconstitutional; fury at a government who would render citizens helpless against a broken rabid dog who takes his sickness out on young children and helpless teachers and staff at a school.

I am no more “mad” at a sick broken person than I would be against a rabid dog.  I am mad at the government who would prevent me or any other responsible adults from carrying protection against the danger.  I am mad at a system of officials who would continue to deny their oath to uphold the Constitution and its people and support a Chicago Machine government agenda to keep the People disarmed.

It makes me furious that in the high school my children attend we have some willing staff that are unable to carry weapons which they have been trained to use responsibly that could defend my kids against rabid broken crazy people, yet they are not allowed perform that function.

I recently saw an internet post by a local person who stated that we should pull police off the road from issuing speeding tickets etc. to protect our schools.  Well we have police on the road for many reasons besides speeding.  Our county has had robberies of many types, domestic crises, emergencies, and a whole host of issues demand their attention.

Meanwhile we have administrators, teachers and custodial staff who are highly intelligent and responsible willing to undergo training and carry for no extra charge.  Some would say we just need to hire guards.  The cost of hiring armed guards to wander around the school all day makes no sense.  It would cost a minimum of $30K per year for salary, plus social security, plus retirement, plus health insurance, plus training, plus uniform expense for around $50K per year, times 3 schools.  Why would we do that when we have some administrators and teachers who are perfectly willing to assume the duty for no extra charge?

I guess I am sick of the police being allowed to protect their families but the rest of us are just supposed to hope for the best and dial 911, even our schools with our innocent young children.  I have a fundamental God given right to be able protect myself and my family against evil.  In fact the Good Book demands it by saying, “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” 1 Timothy 5:8 KJV.

Last week there was a mall shooting in Oregon in which two innocent people lost their lives.  Did anyone in Pike County know that a 22 year old citizen with a concealed handgun held the shooter in his sights which caused the shooter to retreat to a stairwell where the shooter took his own life?  The young man who stopped the rampage stated that he could not take out the bad guy because he feared hitting some people behind the shooter.  A young man of 22 had good sense and was able use good judgment.  Why can’t we in Illinois exercise that same right to carry if we choose to?

The reason we cannot is due to authorities who are willing to continue to enforce unconstitutional law against otherwise law abiding citizens.  Once again I would quote one of our Founders, Thomas Jefferson, to explain just what Liberty is.  I would recommend to those who are willing to think, mull it over to understand its exact meaning.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.  --Thomas Jefferson to I. Tiffany, 1819

The tyrant’s will in Illinois is that the People should remain in subjection to the tyrant and its enforcers by remaining unarmed.  Guns are not the answer.  Guns are the tool.  Just as the bad guy determines to PULL the trigger to destroy life the good guy determines to PULL the trigger to save life.  The tool is not what is bad, but without the proper tool it can be difficult to get the job done.

I have started an online poll which asks, in essence, if people would prefer school staff to be allowed to be trained to carry.  It is located at: http://poll.pollcode.com/pups1h.
